Should you be on the IgG-guided Exclusion Diet for your IBD?

What is the IgG-guided Exclusion Diet?

This diet involves identifying and eliminating foods based on IgG antibody testing (aka food intolerance testing), which some believe indicates food sensitivities.

What’s the evidence in IBD?

One study on IgG-based exclusion diets in Crohns Disease showed a reduction in symptoms but not inflammation.

However, overall, wider evidence does not support the use of IgG food intolerance testing to guide food exclusions and they are not recommended by the major medical organisations.

Take Aways - IgG-guided Exclusion Diet for IBD

  • Potential for symptom improvement in some individuals, but evidence is inconclusive.

  • IgG food intolerance testing not recommended by major medical organisations.

  • Should not be used to guide food exclusion as the wider evidence suggests these are not clinical valid.
